Harald Weingartner founded arthene and leads the house to this day. He is responsible for the selection of works, for valuation in purchasing and for advising collectors — from a first sheet to a collection grown over years. His attitude shapes how every work is handled: examine first, then speak.
The idea came out of an observation. Anyone wanting to buy a picture was quoted a price, but rarely a reason; anyone having to sell one stood before the same wall. Out of that imbalance came a resolve — a house that discloses its assessments, even where they speak against its own turnover.
Today we show prints and editions, paintings and sculpture — from classical modernism to positions that are only now emerging. We purchase, value, broker and advise. Every work goes through the same examination before we take it on: condition, technique, signature, provenance. What cannot be substantiated stands as an attribution — not as a fact.
We have worked in this form since [Jahr]. What has grown most in that time is trust: houses that show us their collection before they dissolve it, and buyers who return after years for a second and a third work. Appointments are made by arrangement — by telephone, by video call or at your own address. We press for nothing.
Looking for new premises
arthene currently has no exhibition rooms of its own — we are looking for a new location.
Until then we are here for you by telephone, by video call and, by arrangement, at your own address.
