Frequently asked questions

Questions about selling

What does the valuation cost?

The initial assessment via our online form is free and without obligation. We only discuss terms once you decide to sell with arthene — set down in writing and with no hidden items.

How long does it take to receive a reply?

For objects that fall within one of our selling categories and reach our minimum value, you will normally receive the valuation within 3–4 weeks. If your matter is time-critical, please approach us directly.

Which photographs and documents do you need?

Telling photographs of the front and the back, of the signature, the frame and any particularities — together with dimensions and medium. Anything you know about the provenance (invoices, expert reports, exhibition or literature references) helps us place the work.

Auction or private sale — who decides?

We decide that together with you. We recommend the route that promises the best result for your object: the auction, or a discreet private sale through our network.

What happens if my object is not suitable?

Then we will tell you so openly and give the reasons for our assessment. We can often point you to a suitable route or a suitable address — a refusal always remains free of charge for you.
