Stefan Szczesny rose to prominence in the 1980s as a representative of the "Neue Wilde" (New Fauves) movement with his expressive, figurative painting. After a DAAD scholarship in Paris (1975/76), he turned from abstract works to figuration; since 2001, he has lived and worked in Saint-Tropez. Mediterranean motifs characterize his work, which includes painting and printmaking, as well as ceramics and steel sculptures.
