Rudi (Ernst Rudolf) Baerwind (1910–1982) was born in Mannheim and studied at the art academies in Munich and Berlin, as well as at the Académie Fernand Léger in Paris. After internment, military service, and prisoner of war status, he restarted his career in Mannheim in 1945, his early works having been lost. His artistic development led him from expressionistic figural painting, through a surrealist phase, to abstraction; from 1957 he lived periodically in Paris and gravitated towards French Informel art. In 1968, he founded the Symposion der Künste in Mannheim; in 1980, the Kunsthalle Mannheim dedicated a retrospective to him for his 70th birthday.
In the collection: "Abstract Composition."
Technique: Oil on canvas.
