Peter Bömmels was born in Frauenberg in the Eifel region in 1951. In 1980, he was a co-founder of the Cologne-based artists' group Mülheimer Freiheit, thus belonging to the circle of the "Neue Wilde" (New Fauves) of the 1980s. His characteristic works include large-format, graphically conceived acrylic-on-canvas paintings, which he reworks with pastel and wax crayons, as well as pieces incorporating glued-on tufts of hair. From 2004 to 2018, he taught at the Dresden University of Fine Arts; he lives and works in Berlin.
