Louis van der Pol was born in The Hague in 1896 and studied at the Academie voor Beeldende Kunsten there. From the 1920s onwards, he worked primarily in Paris, where he created cityscapes and figural scenes. His painting style combines an Impressionist approach with loose, vigorous brushstrokes.
