Hans D. Voss was born in Bielefeld in 1926 and studied at the Hadamar School of Glass and the Wiesbaden School of Applied Arts. He is considered a representative of German Informel art and technically further developed artistic screen printing; collages and material pictures from the late 1950s form the basis of his printmaking, and from 1969 onwards he incorporated collages and raster images with reproductions of other works into his graphic art. His prints primarily work with surface structures and monochromatic gradations from light grey to black. From 1973, he taught at the University of Bremen, where he had also run the Kleine Grafikgalerie (Small Graphics Gallery) since 1966; he died in Brockel in 1980.
