Carl Josef Bauer was a German graphic artist and painter who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Munich under Wilhelm von Diez and Angelo Jank, among others. In the 1920s, he developed a style influenced by Art Deco, which is particularly evident in his nude depictions; his etchings created between 1914 and 1928 were published by Hanfstaengl. Bauer was president of the Munich art society Allotria and exhibited at the Glaspalast as well as at the Great German Art Exhibition in Munich in 1943 and 1944.
