Bernard Buffet, born in Paris in 1928 and deceased in Tourtour, Provence, in 1999, attended the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris from 1943 to 1945. Early on, he developed a figurative, expressive visual language characterized by sharp-edged black outlines, which brought him international recognition starting in the 1950s. In addition to painting, he created an extensive body of printmaking work, including drypoint etchings and lithographs. His works are held, among others, at the Tate in London and the Musée national d’art moderne in Paris; in Japan, there is a dedicated Bernard Buffet Museum.
In the collection: "Le bouquet," "Standing naked figure from behind" (Nu sur la plage).
