Andreas Paul Weber, mostly known as A. Paul Weber, was born in Arnstadt in 1893 and worked as a lithographer, draftsman, and painter. He became known for his satirical and socially critical series of prints, as well as for book illustrations, for example, of Reynard the Fox and Till Eulenspiegel; his most famous lithograph is "Das Gerücht" (The Rumor). Animal motifs and fables run through his graphic work, as do political caricature and criticism of nationalism, the medical industry, and environmental destruction. He died in Schretstaken near Mölln in 1980.
